    Our Company

The development of electrical and solar address signs started in October 1993 based on patent Number 5,435,087. First-generation of signs were sold over a period of 5 years. Red light LEDs were used for illumination. Siemens solar cells formed the panel that was individually assembled. Second and third generation signs exhibited major improvements in cosmetics and performance: bright yellow LEDs and nicer looking solar panels made the signs shine brighter and fancier. Our project was the development of very low energy usage, zero maintenance signs with interchangeable numbers and displays, designed to be clearly visible at night and during the day, and to be substantially more cost-effective than currently available illuminated signs. The purpose of these signs was to assist homeowners or neighborhoods that required a lighted address sign for emergency fire or police services. The design requirements were to develop two very attractive signs for all-weather application: a solar sign that requires no electricity but requires sunlight and an electrical sign that requires minimal electrical energy and no sunlight! Why two signs: a solar sign for home fronts that have sunlight exposure and an electrical sign for home fronts with no sunlight exposure! Other requirements include: LEDs to illuminate all-night long when charged by sunlight energy! Sign to be completely weatherproof! Sign to clearly identify any address up to 5 digits! Sign to require minimal installation and maintenance!

    About Us

The solar address sign was invented by Drs. Maurice and Jack Karkar in order to meet a special challenge in the solar industry.

Dr. Maurice Karkar received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a Master and a Doctorate degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a prominent researcher with over 20 years experience in high technology development and with several patents in the development of medical as well as commercial devices. He is Co-Founder of Cardiovascular Devices, Inc., a start-up company that sold to 3M for over 100 million dollars. In 1992 Dr. Karkar and his partner Jim Velnosky assigned a patent on a Blood Analyzer Apparatus to US Alcohol Testing of America. The patent assignment was intrumental in allowing the company to raise 7.5 million dollars from an initial public offering (IPO). Dr. Karkar and Jim Velnosky received over $200,000 in return for this assignment. One of Dr. Karkar's other inventions is a multipurpose microdermabrasion Handpiece that is currently being sold on the Internet at the www.dermacare-supplies.com website. Dr. Jack Karkar is a Professor of Economics who recently retired from the University of Wisconsin Wausau Campus.

Solar and electrical address signs are designed to save precious electrical energy while using recent advances in solar, electrical, plastic and graphics technologies. www.lighted-address-signs.com was formed to provide products at very affordable prices.
Everybody can use our products but can they really afford them?
The answer is very simple: If you can afford to have your address painted on the curb in front of your house for $3.00 or more, you can afford to buy our signs.
The paint on the curb may last less than one year. Our sign can last for many more years.
